Some New Faces
With a new semester come new faces to our editorial staff, and I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the folks who have joined our accomplished, if not eccentric, team.
Allison Sylte and Jordyn Dahl have become our newest assistant news editors. Both come from our reporting staff and exude an enthusiasm for the job we had quite forgotten last semester. They’ve done wonderfully so far finding new story angles and fresh sources for our content, and I’m excited to see where they’ll take our content this semester.
Chadwick Bowman is another former reporter, and our newest Editorials Editor. Also filled with new ideas, he has introduced his own style and thoughts on the pages that had before this become rather predictable. Not only has he introduced the student-drawn editorial cartoon (something the Collegian has been sorely lacking), he hopes to introduce new columnists and ideas, a breath of life into the oped section.
Finally, after the departure of Matt Stephens (a guy who challenged the sports pages’ design and pushed for a new image in his section), Joel Hafnor has stepped up as Sports Editor, bringing with him Chris Tiller as his Assistant Sports Editor. Joel has been around for years, and with this has gained an understanding about what readers want in their sports section. I’m sure we’ll see just as much creativity from him as we have from sports editors in the past, introducing more features and intramural reporting to the section, ultimately giving a voice to more athletes on this campus.
So here’s to a great semester, with a lot of talent and excitement. I can’t wait to see what we all create, and am so glad we’ve assembled a talented, enthusiastic team.
